How to Make Cookie Cutters with Embossing Stamps in GenShapr
You can turn a simple image into a custom 3D printed cookie cutter with a matching embossing stamp in just a few minutes. The cutter creates the outside shape, while the separate stamp presses the image details into cookie dough, fondant, polymer clay, soap, or play dough.
In this tutorial, I will walk you through my complete workflow in GenShapr, from choosing the right image and setting up both parts to exporting the STL and preparing the model for printing in Bambu Studio.

What You Need #
For this project, I used:
- A high-contrast black-and-white image on a white background
- GenShapr to create the 3D models
- Bambu Studio to slice and prepare the STL file
- A 3D printer—I use the Bambu Lab P1S
- Bambu 1.75 mm PLA Matte Refill Filament
- Satin Ice Fondant for testing the finished cutter and stamp
1. Choose a High-Contrast Image #
Start with a black-and-white image that has strong, clean lines and a white background. GenShapr uses the image to build both the outer cutter shape and the raised details on the embossing stamp, so a clear design makes the conversion easier to preview.

2. Upload the Image to GenShapr #
Open GenShapr and choose Cookie Cutter mode. This mode is designed to create a printable cutter from an image and includes the option to generate a companion stamp.

Upload your image. For this example, I used a dog design. GenShapr creates two parts: the cookie cutter on the left and the embossing stamp on the right. The stamp carries the facial features and other interior lines that will be pressed into the material.
3. Adjust the Cutter and Stamp Settings #
Use the controls in GenShapr to adjust the cutter dimensions, blade, handle, and stamp. In my example, the finished dog design is 2 inches tall, with the width automatically sized to about 1.61 inches.
The screen also shows the blade settings I use as a starting point: a 12 mm blade depth, 1 mm wall thickness, sloped blade style, 4 mm chamfer height, and 0.5 mm tip width. You can use these settings or change them to suit your project.

Turn on the Stamp option to create the matching embossing piece. GenShapr lets you adjust its base thickness, detail depth, and clearance. Every change appears in the 3D preview in real time.

Rotate the preview to inspect the cutter and stamp from different angles. This makes it easier to check the model height and see how far the stamp details rise from the base before exporting.

4. Choose the Export Layout #
When the settings are ready, decide how the two parts should be arranged in the STL file. You can export the cutter and stamp side by side, or turn on Place Inside Cutter to nest the embossing stamp inside the cutter.
Nesting the parts creates a more compact arrangement on the print bed. Preview both options and use the layout that works best for your model and build plate.

Click Download STL when you are happy with the design.
5. Prepare the STL in Bambu Studio #
Import the STL into Bambu Studio and arrange the cutter and stamp on the build plate. I use a Bambu Lab printer, so the exact workflow may look different if you use another machine or slicer.
I begin with the default profile and switch to the 0.16 mm High Quality preset.

The other change I make is enabling ironing for the top surfaces. The high-quality preset helps preserve the small details, while ironing creates a smoother top finish—especially useful on the face of an embossing stamp.

Slice the plate and review the preview. Bambu Studio will display the estimated print time, filament use, and the toolpaths for both parts.

Select the filament color, confirm the printer and build plate, and send the job to the printer.

6. Test the Finished Cutter and Stamp #
Once the print is complete, test both pieces to see how cleanly they cut and emboss. I used Satin Ice fondant for this demonstration.

Roll the fondant into an even sheet.

Press the cutter into the fondant to create the outer shape, then press the matching stamp inside it to transfer the detailed design.

The same workflow can be used for other images. Here is a separate cat cutter and stamp made with the same process.

After lifting the stamp, the outline and small facial details remain visible in the fondant.

Final Result #
The finished cutter-and-stamp sets create clean outer shapes with detailed impressions. Because the two pieces are separate, you can cut the shape first and then control how firmly you press the design into the surface.

Once you have a suitable black-and-white image, GenShapr makes it quick to create both parts, preview the result, and export a printable STL. The matching stamp adds the details that turn a simple outline into a finished design.
